Building Management System (BMS) – IPCS Global

BMS is a computer based control system that controls and monitors mechanical and electrical eqp such as hvac, lights, fire systems and security systems. BMS is also referred to as ibms, bas, bacs, ems. IPCS Global Pune provides various courses in BMS and CCTV field which includes CCTV course in Pune, BMS course in Pune, CCTV installation course in Pune, SCADA courses in Pune, Relay logic systems, Fire alarms etc.

Integrated bms- when multiple third party systems such as fire alarm, access control, lighting control, parking management systems are integrated with bms. This allows operators to have centralised control of all systems at one place.

Building automation system- standalone system without any management functionality typically with ddc control panel and handheld operator terminal.

Building automation control systems- similar to bms. PLC controllers used with scada systems. also controls fire eqp.

Energy management systems- when additional energy management functions are used in bms systems, it is referred as Energy management systems. used in green building applications.

BMS plays an important role in building energy efficiency, also used to integrate building systems such as Fire detection and alarm, HVAC, lighting, CCTV, water/ energy metering and access control.

  • advantages lower operation maintenance cost
  • increase comfort and efficiency of eqp
  • improves building security and eqp safety
  • increases staff productivity & performance

HVAC

Heating- The process of adding heat in an internal space, if the temperature of a particular location is less than std temp by using an electrical resistance heater or boiler.

Ventilation- providing fresh air in an internal space in order to maintain sufficient amounts of O2 and to exhaust foul smell by occupants or internal components.

Air Conditioning- process of treating air in an internal space in order to establish and maintain required std temp, relative humidity, cleanliness, motion, distribution of air and noise lvl(<35db).

Applications; control temp, fresh air circulation, air filtration, efficient & eco, human comfort- buildings, office, hotel, malls, hospitals, process control- textile machine, photographic process, cnc, med prep, pathological labs, x ray, mri, frozen foods etc.

ASHRAE- american society of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning engineering

ISHRAR- Indian society of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning engineering.

SMACNA- sheet metal ac contractors national association

DW- ductwork(section 144)

IS-  Indian std

ARI- Ac & refrigeration institute (std society of machine performance/ std like iso)

ASTM- American society for testing and material.(std society for metals and materials)

CIBSE- chartered institute of building service engineering. UK std

DEWA- Dubai electricity and water authority

RC- Royal commission

LEED- leadership in energy and environmental design

IGBC- Indian green building concept

CCTV (closed-circuit television)

System designed to monitor the desired surrounding environment and its activities.

(NVR) A video recording system utilises IP cameras wirelessly.

(DVR) A video recording system used for recording analog cameras or coaxial based cameras.

effective measure to increase the security of a site and also to improve the efficiency and performance of a business operations.Detect theft, vandalism, providing footage for evidence, monitoring staff performance and safety and provides visibility of premises.

FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL

A fire alarm control panel (FACP) is the controlling component of a fire alarm system. The panel receives information from devices designed to detect and report fires. Fire alarm systems consist of detection devices from sophisticated intelligent smoke detectors to manually operated break glass units.

Fire alarm systems fall into two different categories:-

  • Non addressable (Conventional) Fire alarm system.
  • Addressable Fire alarm systems.

There are a wide array of different types of fire detectors mainly; Flame detectors, Heat detectors, Smoke detectors- photoelectric type & ionisation type, beam detectors, fire and gas detectors.

INTRUSION ALARM SYSTEMS

To monitor and detect unauthorised access in the area. These systems are used for different purposes and in different contexts both residential or commercial. Security systems used for interworking components and devices. Sensors are typically  placed in doors, safe rooms and open spaces. Control panel arms disarms the security systems.

Below are the most used on business intruder alarms;

Passive Infra-Red (PIR) Detector, Curtain PIRs, Glass break detectors, Vibration detectors, panic switches, smoke- heat detectors, IR beam sensors, magnetic door, sounder/ hooters, contact etc.

ACCESS CONTROL

Access control systems are the electronic systems that are designed to control through a network and they should have an access to a network. These are used to recognize, authenticate and authorise entry of a person to enter into the premise thereby giving complete protection ensuring security with the system. Access control systems are security devices to be integrated into BMS platforms.

Types of access control asf:-

  • Discretionary Access Control
  • Mandatory Access Control
  • Role-Based Access Control
  • Attribute-Based Access Control.

Biometric access control, proximity access control, door access control systems, smart card readers are some most commonly used systems in access control.

INTELLIGENT LIGHTING CONTROL

Comprises multiple lighting fixtures connected in a network to provide automatic control of lighting level to meet user’s need. Current lighting control systems often incorporate some automatic control but they can only create a limited number of illuminance patterns due to limitations imposed by field wiring of lighting fixtures. Field wiring of lighting fixtures has no limitations on ILS operation. Once the user’s preference is set, intelligent lighting systems can automatically provide appropriate illuminance without making the user aware of the location of the lighting fixture.

Applications; Offices- use day dimmers instead of operating switches, Home- in mood lighting, street lights- uses day dimmer to automatically dim the lights, Long corridors- motion sensors can be used, staircase- depending upon movement of legs the sensors senses, security purpose and scheduled control.

Conclusion

Building Management System(BMS), CCTV installation and fire alarms is a very trending and demanded field to pursue your career in. Many people choose this as their career and do courses in this field. IPCS Global Pune delivers courses like  CCTV course in Pune, BMS course in Pune, CCTV installation course in Pune, SCADA courses in Pune, Relay logic systems, Fire alarms etc.
